John Eichberger is Executive Director of the Fuels Institute. Founded by NACS in 2013, the Fuels Institute is a non-profit that evaluates market issues related to vehicles and the fuels that power them. The Institute is an objective and collaborative research organization that does not advocate.

 

Previously, Eichberger served more than 14 years at NACS representing the convenience and fuel retailing industry before the media and federal government.

 

With nearly 20 years of related experience, Eichberger is a recognized expert on motor fuels and the fuels retailing industry.

Rick Hartzell
NCAA Basketball Official, Coach, AD

Rick Hartzell grew up in rural north central Iowa, where he formed a life-long passion for hard work, family values and trying to do the “next right thing” as he moved through his personal and professional life. 

Rick has been an athlete and around athletics all of his professional life, serving as an athletic administrator, coach, and game official for nearly 4,000 Division I men’s basketball games. 

He has won countless awards for his professional work; he has written a highly successful book called “Whistle in a Haystack” (An Iowa Farmboy’s Views on Life’s Lessons, Leadership and College Basketball); and he is a popular motivational and “after-dinner” speaker.  Hartzell is currently the Director of Athletics at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, and resides in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with his wife Jill (race car driver and chiropractor) and his boys, Jackson and Jace.

John Maynes is Regulatory Affairs Manager for the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa. John has been with PMCI for 12 years and works closely with many associations including PMAA, EPA, DNR, and Weights and Measures to name just a few.

John's responsibilities include assisting members with regulatory and government compliance issues. He is primarily responsible for renewable fuels compliance and transportation issues but also is adept at the tax issues and aboveground tank questions.

Prior to founding the firm Doug was a Senior Managing Director in the California office of a national M+A firm where he managed both sell-side and buy-side transactions, as well as corporate finance mandates. Doug's career in mergers & acquisitions began in 1992 as a member of the business development and M+A team at Sanifill, Inc., a NYSE environmental services company. While at Sanifill Doug became the company’s Manager of M+A and Business Development for the Pacific Northwest. The assets of Sanifill are now a part of Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM).

Doug brings a unique set of expertise to every energy industry client. Doug’s professional background is particularly helpful to seller clients whose companies represent a strategic acquisition opportunity for larger buyers, and to middle-market companies seeking to grow via acquisition.

Doug received his BA degree from the University of California at Davis.  He is an active participant in energy industry trade associations throughout the West including WOMA, OFA, CIOMA, WPMA, as well as M+A trade associations including the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors (AM&AA).
